ASUS ZenFone 7, 7 Pro Unveiled | Price, Specs, Camera | All you need to know

ASUS has been quiet for a while, but we had heard several leaks about ASUS’s flagship the ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro. ASUS has finally launched the ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro today. ASUS revealed the ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro at an event in Taiwan.

The ASUS Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro carry on the same design language of the ZenFone 6 and improves on it in several ways.

Talking about the differences between the two flagships, the two are very similar and have minimal differences in terms of the SoC, RAM, storage and cameras.

Here are the details of the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro.

Design and Build

In terms of designing both the ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro, carry on the design of the Zenfone 6. Both have a glass sandwich design with an aluminium frame display and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 towards the front and Gorilla Glass 3 towards the back.

It retains the flipping camera of the Zenfone 6, but this time it houses three cameras instead of just two. The ZenFone 7 and 7 Pro’s flipping cameras are also supposed to be faster and more durable than last time according to ASUS, and going by the durability of the Zenfone 6 it seems to be promising.

The Zenfone 7 series measures at a 165.08 x 77.28 x 9.6mm and weigh at a hefty 230 grams which makes it one of the heavier phones in the market.

Display

One part where ASUS has improved the Zenfone 6 tremendously is the display, now the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro boast a 6.67-inch FHD+ 90 Hz OLED display. ASUS also claims that the display also has a 1 ms response rate, 200 Hz touch sampling rate and Delta E of less than one which is extremely responsive and colour accurate.

Performance

ASUS Zenfone 7, 7 Pro Performance

In terms of raw specs, the Zenfone 7 Pro comes with the Qualcomm’ latest and greatest Snapdragon 865+ paired with 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 GB of blazing-fast US 3.1 storage.

The Zenfone 7, on the other hand, has little cut-down specs compared to the 7 Pro with a Snapdragon 865, 6/8 GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB UFS 3.1 storage. Both the phones are equipped with flagship specs and paired with pure stock android these phones should be excellent performers overall.

Software

ASUS Software, i.e. Zen UI, has been very close to stock Android for quite a few years now, and the latest Zen UI 7 is no different. The Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro come with Zen UI 7 out of the box running on Android 10. Going by ASUS’s record the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro should receive regular updates for the next two years as well.

Camera

The camera is another department where ASUS has improved immensely. The Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro both came with the same camera sensors. Both have 64 MP Sony IMX 686 f/1.8 aperture, 0.8um pixel size, PDAF, EIS as the primary camera, a 13 MP ultra-wide camera equipped with Sony’s IMX363 sensor, 113-degree FoV, f/2.2 aperture, Dual PDAF and an 8 MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 aperture capable of 3x optical zoom, 12x total zoom.

The only difference the Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro are that the 7 pro has OIS in the primary and the telephoto camera whereas the regular Zenfone 7doesn’t have the feature.

ASUS has ditched the trend of including low-quality macro cameras and depth sensors in favour of a more versatile set of cameras which is a welcome change.

The Zenfone 7 and 7 Pro are capable of the max of 8K@30fps and 4K@60fps. Much like the Zenfone 6 the back cameras flip to function as the front cameras. Thus the same high-quality sensors can be taken for selfies as well making it one of the best selfie smartphones in the market.

Battery

The Zenfone 7 and 7 pro retain the massive 5000 mAh battery of the Zenfone 6 which should provide excellent battery life. ASUS has also upgraded the charger from 18W to 30W which can charge 0-60% in 34 mins according to ASUS’s claims. But the Zenfone 7 series still lacks wireless charging.

Pricing and Availability

The global pricing for the Zenfone 7 series has not been revealed yet. But in Taiwan, the Zenfone 7 is available for NT$ 21,990 and the 7 Pro for NT$ 27,990.

Let’s see how ASUS brings the Zenfone 7 series to India and how they price them. It would be interesting to see how the market responds to a competitive non-Chinese smartphone in India when the Znfone 7 Series is available.
