This is only a patent application, and there’s no certainty that Microsoft will ever adopt the technology. There aren’t any mentions of privacy protections and that a Microsoft 365 “Productivity Score” feature launched in October has drawn criticisms for allegedly enabling office surveillance. Microsoft must shield the privacy and reassure staff that they won’t be fired for checking their text messages.
The application does line up with Microsoft’s rising use of AI and different technologies to streamline the office, though. And if Microsoft can tackle the issues, this could possibly be a useful tool for managers that wish to enhance their meetings — or better yet, keep away from superfluous meetings altogether.
